Gesture sketches by Marc-F-Huizinga Gesture sketches by Marc-F-Huizinga
Starting some anatomy practices, I'll upload all my progress on here as well as on my blog: http://marchuizinga.blogspot.nl/

Starting with gestures and the process of wrapping around shapes to give it a sense of direction and space.

Gesture sketching and anatomy are two worlds apart though! ;)

General proportions? Yes.
Anatomy in itself? No, anatomy is where you really focus on how muscles work together which essentially is the step after gestures. :)

I'd love to get started on this type of practice. Are you drawing these from a reference?

Yes, any reference of the body will do. It's best not to pick something that obscures the body too much though. The idea is to throw down the initial movement of the figure in a minute or so, just keep the time you spend on it short. After that you can apply landmarks to the gesture and work out the structure bit by bit.
